Hope everyone had a great summer and ready to start a fun new school year. The library got a shot of color with some new red walls and new seating for the computers and lounge area. During back to school night, September 3, I hope you will stop by to see some of the changes and adopt a new fiction book for our Reading Counts program.
See you there!
The WMS library will celebrate National Library Week, April 13-17, with the theme “READ like a ROCK STAR”!! There will be a special book display featuring famous performers and musical groups. A trivia contest will be held each day to test your music knowledge. Fun prizes will be awarded. So head down to the library and Rock out.
All the district libraries have a new circulation system call Destiny. It is web-based, which means if you have internet access, you can access the library catalog. WMS students will be creating their own user names and passwords so they can take advantage of the library catalog at home. They will be able to see what they have checked out, search the catalog, hold books, and search the internet with Web-path express. Just click on the following link, bookmark the site and start searching or click on the link to the left to get to Destiny. http://destiny.willardr2.net

WMS library will host a “Buy One get One Free” book fair on April 18-25th. The fair will be open during regular school hours, 7:00 am - 3:00 pm. If you purchase a book during the fair you can enter a drawing to win one of two $10 WalMart cards or any purchase to enter for one of the posters on display. This is a great time to stock up on books for summertime reading. Hope to see you soon!!
Students have you read at least 4 Mark Twain nominees or 3 Gateway nominees this school year? If you haven’t, you still have til March 2 to do so. A special “cast your vote” lunch will be held for the students who have and come down to the library to sign up for this event. The lunch will be March 7 during all lunch hours to vote for your favorite book from either or both of the lists. I will post the results from our school on Monday, March 10 and then will let you know the state-wide winner after the MASL spring conference in April. Join all the other middler schoolers around the state and cast your vote for your favorite book this year. Any questions or to sign up, see Ms. Wilcox in the library.
Do you have overdue fines and you keep forgetting to pay!!! During the week of February 19-25, the WMS Library will be having a “Love Your Library” food drive to benefit the Willard Food Pantry. For every non-perishable food item you donate, up to 25 cents will be taken off your overdue fine. If you have fines of $1.05, you can bring in 5 items to pay off your fine. It is that simple. You don’t have a fine, bring in an item and you can check-out an extra book. Looking forward to collecting all the fines and filling up the pantry shelves. Any questions, come see Ms. Wilcox in the library.
During January 29 – February 26, the students at WMS have the opportunity to help raise money for the WMS Library. Students will take magazine orders and /or fill out a postcard booklet to help with our annual fundraiser. Prizes will be awarded to students as they bring in their orders. An informational video will be shown to students during advisory on January 29 and the packet containing all the information will be sent home that day as well. There will be three turn-in days. February 5 during advisory, February 8 during lunch, and February 26 during advisory. For every 4 orders turned in on these days, students will earn cash prizes. All money raised will go to purchase books for our fiction collection. Based on state standards for numbers of books, we need to add 1600 more books to reach Level One, the lowest level. I am hoping to raise $1,500 to purchase 100 books for this section of the library which will also help our school-wide Reading Counts program. I would like to encourage every student to either fill out the booklet or sell at least one magazine to help out our library this year. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call. Thanks for your support!!
